The Iomai Corporation has recently announced that its patch-based vaccine for enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) bacteria will offer significant protection from travelers' diarrhea.
ETEC is the most common cause of travelers' diarrhea. The major regions where the ETEC occurs includes countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The Iomai's vaccine uses transcutaneous immunization (TCI) technology, which allows the vaccine to be delivered to the immune system through a simple patch affixed to the skin.
The recent test results of this vaccine indicate high levels of effectiveness and as well as the safety of the vaccine patch.
