Dave Weldon, U.S. Representative, and Carolyn Maloney introduced a new bill on Thursday at a press conference. This bill will give responsibility of the nation's vaccine regulations and safety over to the Department of Health and Human Services. Currently, vaccine safety is handled by the CDC which is also responsible for vaccine promotion.
Weldon and Maloney are worried that this is a conflict of interest. "If we fail to move vaccine safety to a seperate independent office, safety issues will remain a low priority and public confidence in vaccines will continue to erode," said Weldon at the press conference. There are several groups working with the two in their quest for a vaccine safety reform.
Their main goal is to ensure that research on vaccines remain unbiased, free from criticism and robust. At this time, the public does not know whether or not to accept the fact that a company is selling and regulating safety on vaccines that are given to their children and having to take themselves.
This bill is gaining increasing popularity among the public as well as those in the government. If this bill is passed, it will give those that have to be vaccinated a greater sense that their medication has been tested and is completely safe.
