Israeli researchers have developed their own anthrax vaccine after conducting clandestine experiments on soldier volunteers.
The experiments were carried out on 700 soldiers with only 4 cases of minor side-effects occurred during the studies. The soldiers' participation in the research was completely voluntary and was conducted under very thorough medical, ethical, and safety supervision.
Giora Martinovich, a former CMO in the military mentions the experiments began in the late 1990s due to the fears of a possible anthrax attack by Saddam Hussein's Iraq.
The research conducted will improve the protection for the Israeli population from potential future anthrax attacks.
